Fraser Roy’s practice includes all aspects of intellectual property law with a focus on assisting clients in managing and developing their IP portfolios using U.S. and foreign IP protection strategies to identify and protect key innovations and technologies. With this underlying motivation, Fraser’s practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the United States and foreign countries, attending to issues related to copyrights and trademarks, and the negotiation and preparation of licensing, acquisition, confidentiality, and other agreements related to protecting intellectual property assets.
In addition to patent and transactional related activities associated with intellectual property, Fraser’s practice includes due diligence investigations regarding intellectual property portfolios. Clients rely on his experience to assist them with conducting and managing freedom-to-operate investigations and the preparation of legal opinions regarding infringement, non-infringement, validity, and availability of certain intellectual property rights.
From a technical background, Fraser has experience with a number of technologies including medical device technologies, computer software, optical systems, and general mechanical systems. Clients ranging from multi-national corporations to individual inventors find his understanding of their businesses, coupled with his seasoned experience, to be extremely valuable in protecting the assets of their companies.
Fraser enjoys presenting in-house seminars designed to assist clients, educate key R&D personnel and management on intellectual property issues, and develop an overall IP protection strategy.
In addition to presenting, his leadership roles include having served as Chairman of the IP Law Associations Committee for the American Intellectual Property Law Association, as a member of the CLE Committee for the Intellectual Property Section of the Utah State Bar Association, delegate of US Bar-EPO Liaison Council, a member of the Entrepreneurship Founders Board at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, Utah State University, and National “D” soccer license with 15+ years of coaching experience.
