W. Brad Barger

With an understanding that his clients are working to make their customer’s lives better through innovation and technology, Brad helps clients protect their hard-earned innovations through patents, trademarks, trade dress, trade secrets, and copyrights. Passionate about helping clients bring their products to market, Brad helps them pursue patent protection within a broad array of subject matters, including computer systems, consumer electronics, telecommunications, software, and medical devices, and many other technology fields.

Companies in many different stages, including in their earliest start-up stages to some of the largest technology companies in the world, rely on Brad’s extensive experience. From advising a Fortune 500 Company through a complicated technology acquisition that included navigating through multiple competitor-owned patents within the targeted technology field, to managing multiple client’s intellectual property portfolios prior to and after the clients have gone public, Brad enjoys working with clients to develop custom-made intellectual property strategies. Such strategies include providing strategic and leadership advice and assisting companies in developing aggressive IP strategies that protect the companies’ innovations and maximize the value of the companies’ IP portfolios.

Brad actively participates in those organizations which support the technology and legal communities and is an adjunct professor teaching advanced patent drafting and prosecution at the J. Reuben Clark Law School. His leadership positions include serving as President of the Salt Lake City IP Inn of Court (David K. Winder IP Inn of Court) and serving as a Lead Dean’s Fellow while in law school.

Recognized for his achievements, Brad's awards include receiving the ABA-BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Intellectual Property law and was selected by faculty and peers to receive the J. Reuben Clark Award for academic excellence, integrity, and service.
