Amy B. Fiene Joins Workman Nydegger

SALT LAKE CITY – January 9, 2015 – Amy B. Fiene has joined Workman Nydegger, Utah’s largest intellectual property law firm, where she will focus on U.S. patents and trademarks. Ms. Fiene’s work emphasizes preparing and prosecuting patent and trademark applications related to various fields, including medical and mechanical devices, computer software, and biomechanics.

Prior to law school Ms. Fiene worked as a patent manager at ActivIdentity, where she assisted in drafting and prosecuting applications concerning identity theft protection. She also worked as a biomedical researcher for Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Hospital’s Research and Development Center, during which she used accelerometers and mathematical models to locate firefighters in buildings based on gait and stair climbing activities.

Ms. Fiene graduated from J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she graduated magna cum laude, and went on to receive a Master of Science degree from Stanford University in Mechanical Engineering. During her graduate studies at Stanford, Ms. Fiene combined magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computer software, and clinical testing to measure and simulate knee cartilage associated with patellofemoral pain. In addition to her research of the knee joint, she developed a motion capture lab for analysis of movement related to robotic arms, crouch gait in children with cerebral palsy, and facial expression used in filmmaking. She has also programmed modules, assembled microcontrollers, and constructed wheeled devices that incorporate sensors, timers, and motors.
